About the Recipe

Aliv Seeds is a Superfood. Also called Garden Cress Seeds in English, Aliv in Marathi and Halim in Hindi. Traditionally one of the foods had postpartum for recovery but it has multiple benefits including building your immunity.

An excellent source of Iron, Protein, Vitamins and minerals that helps to reduce hair-fall and promotes hair growth. Aliv works well when it is had with a fat like ghee or dry coconut which makes assimilation of iron easier. However it should be had in limited quantities as it a nutrient dense food, best had in moderation. One ladoo a day only!


  • Half cup Aliv seeds (100g)

  • 1 cup Coconut water/water

  • 1 cup Grated coconut

  • Half cup Jaggery

  • 2 tbsp Ghee

  • Pinch of grated Nutmeg


Step 1

First soak aliv seeds in coconut water for 2 hrs and then mix the grated coconut and Jaggery in the soaked aliv and keep for 30min.

Step 2

Heat Ghee in a hevy bottom utensil and cook the mixture  for 10-12 min, stirring continously  till the moisture reduces and the mixtre starts looking glossy.

Step 3

Add a pinch of grated nutmeg and allow it to cool before rolling it into bite sized ladoo. Keeps well in refrigerator for 8-10 days. Have only one ladoos a day.
